Legacy MAP Retirement

This is an announcement that Centreon is considering retiring Centreon MAP Legacy starting next version 24.10.

The diagramming and mapping functionality referred to as Centreon MAP is currently shipped in two flavors:

  • MAP Legacy which relies on a client application running on a desktop to create/edit maps
  • MAP Web, a web client fully embedded into the Centreon user interface

The following only relates to Centreon on-premise installations as Centreon Cloud already runs MAP Web.

Given the change in technology and the migration necessary to move from MAP Legacy to MAP Web, Centreon has been continuing full support of MAP Legacy until now.

With hundreds of production platforms now running MAP Web, we believe it is time to consider deprecating MAP Legacy.

Our intent is to end support of MAP Legacy with the next major version of Centreon: 24.10.

MAP Legacy will continue being shipped and supported on 23.04, 23.10 and 24.04 according to our version support policy.

Our final decision will be based on:

  • Data we gather on platforms still running MAP Legacy
  • Feedback we get from our user community
  • Our ability to address remaining feature differences and to complete the migration tools

Frequently Asked Questions

Does MAP Web have the same feature set as MAP Legacy?

There are variations in how MAP Web implements certain features but the functional scope is identical. A key difference is that what used to be called Geo Maps in MAP Legacy (standard maps with a geographical background using a tile provider such as MapBox) does not exist as such in MAP Web where this capability is delivered through Geographical Views. When migrating Geo Maps, these map objects will be migrated, but tiles will not appear in the background.

Our development plans for 24.10 include enriching Geographical Views so they cover all requirements we have gathered.

How do I switch to MAP Web?

You will first need to install MAP Web. The main page includes a button from which the transition is triggered. Please read more in the Migration procedure

Will MAP Legacy continue to ship with 24.10?

At time of writing this article we have not yet decided whether MAP Legacy will still ship unsupported 24.10 packages or if those will be entirely removed from distribution.

What happens if a bug impacts MAP Legacy?

Supported versions (23.04, 23.10 and 24.04) will remain maintained after 24.10 releases. Bug and security fixes will continue being delivered per the version support policy.

Are there known issues with MAP Web?

Known issues for MAP Web are listed in the documentation.

Do I need a new license to switch to MAP Web?

No, the license key installed on your Central server will cover both MAP Legacy and MAP Web.

Does that change impact Centreon Cloud users?

Centreon Cloud already runs MAP Web so users are not impacted by this change.
