Describe the macro just as args

As a Centreon User, the macro without a description can be very difficult to set up.
Here a schema from @discoM from slack
it could be interesting to have directly the description of the macros. 

 

  • Persona: all the editors/administrators of Centreon

  • Problem to solve: configure rightly and quickly the service

  • Expected outcome: more user friendly Centreon. 

  • Potential solutions: print the description of the macros

I am nevertheless declining it for two reasons.
  • First, to remain in a product-related perspective, because it is not exactly a new feature.
    As you may know, there already is a feature that can hold this information, the item circled in red below.


It could be improved, that’s sure, but it wouldn’t be enough to solve the expressed problem since what is asked for here is information.

  • Then, whether we improve the existing feature or not, the remaining work to be done to document the macros in order to make them more understandable lies in the Plugin Packs, and the amount is huge.
    We currently have 3000+ service templates, each one of them having several macros. I picked one randomly: App-Activemq-JMX-Brokers has 46 of them (OK, that’s high above the average).
    The choice that has been made several years ago was to make these macros’ names as explicit as possible, self-documented.

Consequently, unless we receive dozens of similar feedbacks, we won’t invest in that direction, sorry.
