Question

Impossible to re-select the current selected saved filter in the list

Hi,

When a filter is selected, it’s possible to enter a new query, thus changing the displayed results. If one wants to go back to the previous results, he can’t select the same filter in the list again. He has to select another filter, then re-select the filter he wants.

The “previous” browser button (which could be a workaround to the problem described above) doesn’t work either. And this is even more annoying, a web application should always let the user use the “previous” and “next” browser buttons.

Hello, what version are you using? Just tested on 22.10.10, I select a saved search:

Then I edit the search either in the query box or through the filtering UI and the saved search now chnages to “new filter”:

So I can go back:

Now, you’re right that the browser buttons are not handled, would you mind creating an Idea for this?

Well, it doesn’t change for me, it stays on the selected filter. Both when editing the search or using the filtering UI. It’s version 22.10.11, I’ve had the same issue with the 22.10.7. Didn’t test the 22.10.10 butt I doubt i’d worked only for this version (for me).. I tested Chrome and Firefox.
I get no error in centreon-error.log or error.log, nor in the browser console.

These are the only error I get, probably not related:

HI @Stéphane, if you modify the filters, you must move to “New filter”:

Do you get errors in the “Console” tab when you enable developer mode in your browser?

I have no error in the console. I just tested creating a new filter: still the same.

In the screen capture you posted you do not save a filter as I do. I’m talking about saved filters. The filters you give a name to, via Save as new.

I also have a display bug if mouse-overing the resource listing after I scrolled right to see the other columns: That’s another subject but still very annoying.

To get back to saved filters… there is another thing that doesn’t work: re-ordering the filters (via Edit filters). It does in fact re-order them, but they go back to their original position after reloading the page. Even if moving only one filter.

Hi @Stéphane if it is a custom filter, it is normal that this remains selected even if you change the options. This makes it easier to save changes (filter update).

I have absolutely no recrimination that it stayed selected. But I can’t see what’s the goal to forbid to “re-select” it?

Consider the two following scenarios:

1) I select a custom filter
2) I edit the search bar for some reason

at this point I may want two different things:

 - update the selected filter with the modification I’ve made (ie: save changes as you said)

OR

 - go back to the original value (and so, results) of this selected filter

I’m far many times in the second case myself, but the two options should definitively be available.

To formulate it more accurately (and I hope, clearly enough): it is a matter of going back to the results this filter gives when it is selected when clicking on this already selected filter.

HI @Stéphane , thank you for your feedback.

Can you create an idea explaining this?

Regards

Hi,

Did that.

This is unfortunate that you can’t convert a question to an idea in TheWatch. Another example of how GitHub’s issues, with the tag system, was more convenient and powerful.

Notwithstanding the impossibility to do it is a bug or misconsception to begin with. This was B. Mareau told me when I first report this during a meeting we had many months ago, which will be fixed soon…

Hi @Stéphane, for you it is a “bug” but if we change the behavior of the application, this change will be applied for all users.

Moreover, we want to change the UX experience for filtering resources in “Resources Status” menu, maybe I can show you prototype.

Regards,

>if we change the behavior of the application, this change will be applied for all users.

Currently it does nothing when one clicks on the already selected filter, so I really don’t see what it’d changes for all users.

Once again, this behaviour was also considered as a bug by B. Mareau when I showed it to him (during a screencast). But I’d say it is more precisly defined as a misconception than a “bug”, I admit.

>Moreover, we want to change the UX experience for filtering resources in “Resources Status” menu, maybe I can show you prototype.

Thank you for your proposal but currently I don’t have enough time to schedule a meeting for this.

Maybe you could setup a demo platform for the last prototype ? Like there is a http://demo.centreon.com ? Then I can see that when it happens that I have a few time for this. More widely, it could permit you to get more feedback on the prototypes in general.

I make this proposal but I don’t really think you have the necessary time for this when I see that the current demo site is still at 22.10.1 today, despite the answer made months ago by @rchauvel to

I suspect I’m not the only one to face the numerous difficulties every upgrade of a Centreon platform has. 😉

On my side, if I can find some time to do it (that shouldn’t be before the end of 2023 anyway) I will try to set up a third platform so I could test the last Centreon packaged in the unstable repository. Even if I think the prototypes you’re talking about aren’t pushed in this repository yet. But this way I could at least make some feedback before stable releases.
